CONGRESS DEFIES OBAMA ON F-35 ENGINES!
RIFT COULD LEAD TO VETO OF HATE BILL

Pres. Obama has warned Congress since spring that if it adds too
much military "pork" to the 2010 military appropriations
bill, including billions more for development of alternative F-35 jet
fighter engines, he will veto the defense bill.
That means the federal hate crimes bill, attached as an amendment, would also
be vetoed, probably destroying its chances in this Congress.
Today's CQ Politics article (entitled "Defense
Conferees Defy Obama on Warplane Engines") says, "In a snub of
President Obama, negotiators on the defense authorization bill plan to back continued
development of a second engine for the F-35 warplane, according to aides familiar
with the deliberations. At stake is potentially $100 billion worth of jet-engine
business."
For the past ten years, the contract to produce F-35 engines belonged to Pratt & Whitney. Yet,
critics say, such monopoly has resulted in staggering cost increases, along with
dubious quality. The engine wouldn't even start in several trial runs. Result:
An increasing number of members of Congress favor competition from General Electric-Rolls
Royce in order to produce thousands of better engines at lower cost.
Pres. Obama, like his predecessor George Bush, remains convinced Pratt & Whitney's
engine is sufficient without an extra $100 billion outlay.
Last week I discussed this conflict with an expert in the House Appropriations
Committee. He said a majority of Democrats and Republicans in both houses
of Congress believe competition is now imperative and that GE-Rolls Royce ought
to be given a contract. That unanimity was reflected in the overwhelming
May House vote in favor of alternative engine production.
Yet, he was baffled as to why the Senate, originally in overwhelming support
of alternative engine production, suddenly voted to strip it off their final
defense authorization bill. I had to tell him why: "The Democrats
have been trying to pass their federal hate crimes bill for the past ten years. At
last, they are very close to accomplishing this and are not going to tempt a
veto of the hate bill by Obama merely because of the need to strengthen national
defense!"
Seize the Opportunity!
What can lovers of freedom do to insure that Congress continues in the direction
of provoking a defense/hate bill veto from Obama -- especially since resolution
of this issue is moving quickly forward?
Do exactly what the National Prayer Network has recommended all summer:
- Call NOW to your two Senators and the House member from your district
at 1-877-851-6437 toll free. Tell them: "Please
support development of extra engines for the F-35 jets." (If asked why
you take this stand, just say you are concerned that we have the
strongest possible military.)
- Write Pres. Obama and tell him to please veto any arms bill that
includes an extra $100 billion for extra F-35 engines. White
House phones and faxes remain very busy, so write the President at
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500.
- In a separate letter, tell Pres. Obama that if he signs the federal
hate crimes bill you will do your best to defeat Democrats in the
midterm election and him next time around.
- Also, print out and distribute widely this summer's flyer "Obama
Could Veto Hate Bill!" on the Action
Page at www.truthtellers.org. Let
everyone know of this tremendous opportunity. We now have proof
positive that a veto is not just a dream. A veto would destroy
the hate bill and insure at least a few more years of free speech.
But, also vitally important, out of a repentant humble heart, pray
as you have never prayed before that God will have mercy on America
and cause even greater, irreconcilable conflict between Obama and the
Democrats over this issue.
God and the people may already have destroyed two outrageous ADL hate bills,
the cyberbullying bill and AWARE. If we can rally to destroy the federal
hate bill, as well as ENDA, we will have devastated the Democrat hate crimes
agenda for this Congress -- just as we did in the last.
God is ever watchful over our republic -- a nation He played the deciding role
in founding. Take action NOW!
