EMERGENCY ALERT!
MORE HATE BILL HEARINGS THIS WEEK
By Rev. Ted Pike
26 Sep 09
Two
more federal hate crimes bills could fast-forward this Wednesday
in a hearing scheduled by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on
Crime: the Megan Meier Cyberbullying
Prevention Act, HR 1966 and the Safe
Schools Improvement Act, HR 2262. The first threatens
two years in prison just to “intend” to cause “substantial
emotional distress” to anyone, including a homosexual,
by critical speech over the internet or airwaves. The second
outlaws “persistent or pervasive” criticism of homosexuality
in America’s public school system if it “adversely
affects the ability” of a gay student to attend a school
activity.
Last week, the Employment Non-Discrimination
Act (ENDA) surged forward after a hearing in the Committee on Education
and Labor. Homosexual Reps. Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin and a host of gay
and liberal witnesses overwhelmed Republican opposition. Only one Republican
of the 19 committee members, Rep. John Kline, had the courage and arguments to
significantly oppose it.
Why were Republicans so unprepared?
On Thursday I called House Judiciary Republican offices to ask if they were receiving
protest calls against the four hate bills moving through committees. Virtually
all had received “very small” or no protest. Of the ten Republican
offices I called, most did not know that ENDA hearings were held the previous
day! At least half of the staffers were not even aware of ENDA’s existence.
Almost all knew nothing of the other three hate bills.
I spent much of Thursday talking to Republican staffers, itemizing and explaining
these four extremely dangerous pieces of freedom-stealing legislation. Shocked
to hear about the four bills, the Judiciary expert for one Republican visited
www.truthtellers.org with me and skimmed my recent article “Five Hate Bills
Surge through Congress.” She said no Judiciary Republican had such a comprehensive
understanding of the hate bill threat as was contained in my article.
However, a number of staffers told me Rep. Louie Gohmert had just sent an alert
to House Republicans that they will likely see new hate bills moving within the
next few weeks. Gohmert’s office told me Friday that he is aware of the
upcoming hearings on Wednesday. Gohmert also was reported to have said that,
with hearings on the National Defense Authorization
Act (with hate bill attached) scheduled to begin this week, Republicans
will be making a last-ditch attempt to strip out the anti-free speech language
in the hate bill.
More
Bungling Ahead?
What will happen Wednesday in the hate bill hearings? Unless patriots
alert and energize the six Republicans on the Subcommittee on Crime,
possibly unprepared conservatives will again be thrown back by very focused
and aggressive liberals and their witnesses.
These Republicans are:
- J.
Randy Forbes (Va.)
- Louie
Gohmert (Texas)
- Bob
Goodlatte (Va.)
- Dan
Lungren (Calif.)
- Ted
Poe (Texas)
- Tom
Rooney (Fla.)
Tell
their offices, “Please encourage
the Congressman to vigorously oppose the two hate crimes bills to be
considered in Wednesday’s crime subcommittee hearing. They are
the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention
Act, HR 1966 and the Safe Schools
Improvement Act, HR 2262.” Also tell them to oppose
ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination
Act, HR 3017 and the National
Hate Crimes Hotline Act, HR 2684.
Previously, I asked callers to encourage Republicans to oppose “all hate
and bias legislation.” That message is no longer enough. Unless you individually
list these bills to their offices, the members of Congress may not know they
exist!

Clearly, people are weary of calling Congress, trying to hold back the unresponsive
Democrat juggernaut intent on ending freedom. But we do not even begin to know
what real weariness is—the kind
of weariness that will come upon us and our children if we give up the fight
for freedom. That is the bone-chilling kind of weariness that means cold, starvation,
torture and, ultimately, death in the gulags of the new world order.
Let the Anti-Defamation League teach you how they have saddled 45 states
with hate laws capable of persecuting Christians, and spearhead attempts to pass
the federal hate crimes bill: http://www.adl.org/99hatecrime/intro.asp.
