Federal Hate Crimes Bill Re-Introduced in Congress

After being defeated in 2000, 2002, and 2004, the Anti-Defamation League's "Big Brother" federal "anti-hate" bill, with title changed to "Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2005," H.R. 259, (previously called the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act, LLEEA) was reintroduced to the House of Representatives on January 6, 2005 by Ms. Jackson-Lee (D. TX). It is now in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime.

Both Houses of Congress last year made it clear that they overwhelmingly approve this bill: the Senate voted 65 to 33 in its favor on June 15th; the House symbolically favored it 213 to 186 on September 28th. This means very rapid passage unless lovers of free speech protest now.

This massive Orwellian bill is the most dangerous legislation since the Federal Reserve Act of 1913; probably even more dangerous, since it will lead directly to establishment of a vast federal anti-hate bureaucracy like Canada's ending free speech.

This bill will empower the federal government to invade states' rights in "hate crimes" law enforcement, breaking down traditional states' rights protection from federal intervention.

It will also exponentially empower the federal "thought police" to enforce the working ADL/federal definition of "hate" as "bias against homosexuality." This twisted definition makes the Bible, with its bias against homosexuality, into "hate speech;" those who adhere to the biblical standard into "hate criminals."

The world has been aghast at how the Pennsylvania ADL hate laws could arrest and imprison eleven Christians for simply preaching the gospel at a "gay-pride" event, possibly sentencing them to 47 years in prison and $90,000.00 fine each.

Such power to arrest and imprison Christian and conservative "haters," including pro-lifers, writers and conservative talk-show hosts, will dramatically increase if the federal government, assisted by the ADL, locks up the whole nation under a massive "anti-hate" thought police-state.

For preaching the gospel, eleven Christians were arrested under Pennsylvania's hate crime laws.

This proves that late laws can be abused to persecute Christians and end free speech.

How What's Wrong With "Anti-Hate" Laws?

Almost everybody is against hate. So what's wrong with the huge federal "anti-hate" bill, "The Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act," which was rejected by Congress, Oct. 8th, but will surely be reintroduced this spring?

The problem is the government's definition of hate. It's not the same as Webster's. In its "anti-hate" educational program, the government endorses the idea that "hate equals bias against homosexuality" (homophobia).

What document is the most biased against homosexuality? The Holy Bible. Bible-believing evangelical Christians are thus the ultimate target of the twisted definition of "hate" upon which the federal hate bill is based.

If the LLEEA is passed this spring, it will begin to criminalize criticism of homosexuality. It will quickly broaden to address the grievances of homosexuals, not just concerning physical safety from violent hate crimes, but emotional safety. Through enabling legislation and judicial precedent, hate crimes will soon come to mean "hate speech", just as it does in Canada, Sweden, France, Ireland, etc.

Phony Statistics

Proponents of the federal hate bill claim there exists an "epidemic of hate" in America. It is a crisis, they contend, that cries out for massive federal legislation.

Yet, the FBI's annual "Uniform Crime Report" for 2002 shows that alleged "hate crimes constitute an infinitesimal 1/20 of 1% of all crime in America. This is hardly a crisis demanding creation of a vast federal "anti-hate" bureaucracy with unlimited power to invade state's rights in law enforcement.

Also, at least 95% of so-called "hate crimes" recorded by the FBI have never been tried in court. Rather, most are nothing but police reports concerning verbal acts of "intimidation" and petty vandalism.

Yes, hate remains a major problem to humanity. Yet if Congress passes LLEEA this spring, it will not be in response to a genuine emergency. Rather, phony statistics have been manipulated to create the illusion of crisis.

Hate bill will pass this spring

A minority of anti-LLEEA Republican conferees, carefully chosen by the House majority, were able to defeat the federal hate bill, Oct 8th. Yet, in a symbolic non-binding vote, the general House Republicans voted on Sept. 28th, 213 to 186 in favor of the hate bill.

This means that when the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, author of this Orwellian legislation, re-submits the hate crime bill next spring, it is sure to pass. Already, the Senate, on June 15th, voted 65 to 33, in favor of it.

Support by the House now means that the ADL can bring it in, not by the "back door" as an amendment, but boldly through the "front door" as a bill in its own right.

It is vital now that a national educational program begin to awaken Americans to the danger to free speech which is posed by the federal hate bill. Much attention has been paid to the danger to privacy which the Patriot Act contains. Yet, even Christian conservative leaders, televangelists and talk-show hosts have been virtually silent concerning a greater threat to our freedom of speech which LLEEA contains.

HATE LAWS: BRAINCHILD OF ADL

Forty years ago, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith lobbied Parliament to pass Canada's anti-hate law. Similarly, the ADL is the architect of the present "anti-hate" bill before Congress. Beginning with its national "Model Anti-Hate Law Competition" in 1988, the ADL has pioneered anti-hate legislation in the United States at both state and federal levels.

In 1988, the ADL, in testimony to Congress, made it clear that, as a veteran "civil liberties organization," it would like to assume the role of defining for the nation what constitutes "hate" and "hate crime."

Attorney General Janet Reno responded by praising the ADL's role in creating model anti-hate legislation. She brought the U S Department of Justice into close cooperation with the ADL and ordered Director William Sessions and all FBI field offices to establish links with the ADL. She also authorized the ADL to instruct every U S police department in how to define "hate" and recognize "hate crimes." Thus, in every hamlet in America, police are taught by the ADL, through instructional manuals, seminars and videos, how to define and recognize a "hate motivated incident."

What is the ADL's definition of "hate crime"?

The ADL never uses a logical definition of a bias/hate crime. Logical definitions are:

Bias motivating a crime is a bias crime.

Hate motivating a crime is a hate crime.

Instead, the ADL always makes "bias" equal with "hate." It says:

Bias motivating a crime is a hate crime.

Of course, bias is not hate. In fact, many biases are good. For example, a bias against rattlesnakes may be a life saver. Yet, by making bias and hate the same, the ADL reaches its real objective: not eliminating hate, but making those who are biased against homosexuals (Christians) into haters - violators of anti-hate laws.

The ADL repeatedly asserts that bias against homosexuals is not only a psychological disorder, "homophobia," but can lead to a verbal or physical "hate crime" against gays. The truth is, of course, that most evangelical Christians do not hate homosexuals - only their sinful ways.

In its training manual for police officers, the ADL suggests that if the perpetrators of a "gay bashing" cannot be found, police ought to ask the question:" "Is there in the community any group which is biased against homosexuals?" The answer is, of course, "Yes." Evangelical Christians are conspicuously biased against homosexuality, citing the biblical descriptions of sodomy as an "abomination" (Lev. 20:13) with the penalty of death to those who practice it. Are Christians potential "gay bashers"? The ADL thinks so.

The danger emerging from the hate bill presently before Congress is clear: persecution of Christianity.

This brings us to a remarkable observation: The ADL has always insisted on rigid "separation of church and state," vehemently opposing Christian symbols in public places or any government encouragement of Christianity. Yet, for the past fifteen years, the U S government has given "carte blanche" to a religiously affiliated organization, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith," not only to speak for the American government but to teach the justice department, the FBI, and all police departments nationwide concerning what is "hate" and who is "hateful."

B'nai B'rith is a Jewish religious, educational, fraternal organization with 500,000 male and 2,300 female members promoting Jewish religious and cultural values through its 2,300 lodges worldwide. The Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, founded by B'nai B'rith in 1913 to combat anti-Semitism, proudly remains a part of this faith-based organization.

If a similar "civil liberties" arm of a large Christian denomination, such as the "Methodist Federation for Social Action," were given such privileges, there would be a holy howl from church-state separatists!

Not so, when the government teams up with B'nai B'rith.
